Privacy Policy

Applies To: saltmarshapps.com, Boat Maintenance Log (com.saltmarshapps.boatlog), and all mobile applications published by Saltmarsh Apps LLC.

Saltmarsh Apps LLC (“Saltmarsh Apps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) builds local-first consumer utility software. We designed Boat Maintenance Log and our companion applications so that your maintenance records, vessel details, ownership expenses, and financial statements remain on your device under your control.

1. On-Device Data Storage (No Mandatory Accounts)

All vessel profiles, engine-hour logs, maintenance entries, ownership cost records, merchant categorization rules, and service reminders you create in Boat Maintenance Log are stored locally on your device inside an on-device SQLite database:

  • We do not require you to register an account, sign in, or provide your name, phone number, or email address to use the app.
  • Your maintenance logs and ownership expense records are stored locally on the specific iPhone, iPad, or Android device where they are entered; there is no automatic background cloud sync across devices and your records are never uploaded to Saltmarsh Apps LLC servers.
  • If your device has system backups enabled (such as Apple iCloud Device Backup or Google Android Backup), your local app data may be included in your personal encrypted device backup managed by Apple or Google.

2. Local Bank & Credit Card CSV Import

Boat Maintenance Log Pro includes an optional feature allowing you to import transaction rows from CSV statements exported from your bank or card issuer:

  • CSV files you select via the system file picker are parsed entirely on your device.
  • Your CSV files and transaction rows are never uploaded to Saltmarsh Apps LLC servers or transmitted to any third party.
  • The app does not ask for bank login credentials and does not connect to external financial aggregators.

3. Photos, Attachments & PDF Exports

When you attach photos of parts, hulls, engines, or service receipts to a log entry, those images are stored locally on your device within the app’s sandboxed storage. When you generate a PDF service history or ownership cost report, the PDF file is rendered locally on your device (explicitly labeled as an owner log of maintenance and ownership costs, not a marine survey) and shared only when you explicitly choose a destination in your device’s native system share sheet.

4. Local Notifications

Date-based maintenance and renewal reminders are scheduled locally on your device using native operating system notification APIs. We do not operate a remote push-notification server or collect push tokens.

5. Subscriptions & In-App Purchases

Optional Pro upgrades (Boat Log Pro: $4.99/month or $34.99/year, both with a 7-day free trial, or $34.99 one-time Lifetime Unlock) are billed and processed directly by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Saltmarsh Apps LLC never receives or stores your credit card number or billing address.

We use RevenueCat (react-native-purchases) to validate anonymized App Store and Google Play purchase receipts and manage your active pro subscription entitlement across renewals and restores. RevenueCat receives only the store receipt token and an anonymous app user identifier necessary to verify subscription status.

6. Anonymous Product Analytics & Crash Diagnostics (No Advertising or Cross-App Tracking)

To keep the application reliable across iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices, Boat Maintenance Log uses privacy-focused, non-identifying product usage telemetry powered by PostHog and crash/error diagnostics powered by Sentry:

  • What Is Collected: Anonymous feature usage events (such as screen views and button taps) and technical crash/error stack traces with basic device metadata (OS version and app build).
  • What Never Leaves Your Device: We never collect or transmit your vessel names, hull IDs, engine hours, maintenance log text, notes, attached photos, ownership cost entries, or imported bank/card CSV rows.
  • Zero Advertising or Cross-App Tracking: The application contains zero third-party advertising SDKs, never accesses platform advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID), and never shares or sells data to data brokers or ad networks.

7. Data Retention & How to Delete All Data

Because your records are stored locally on your device, you remain in full control of retention and deletion at all times:

  • In-App Instant Erasure: Open the Settings tab inside the app and tap Erase all data. Confirming this action immediately and permanently deletes all boats, maintenance log entries, ownership cost items, merchant rules, attached photos, and scheduled local reminders from your device.
  • Uninstalling the App: Deleting the application from your iPhone, iPad, or Android device also removes its local SQLite database and sandboxed files from the device.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our websites and applications are utility tools intended for adult vessel and property owners and are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised version at https://saltmarshapps.com/privacy and update the “Last Updated” date at the top of the page.
